Golden Bough

A Tale from the Heart.

A story of compassion and hope.

A fairy tale ballet for all ages.

An original work by local choreographer Wilor Bluege.

Once upon a time…

a tree stood in a clearing in the middle of a wood at the edge
of a village. The tree had a golden bough, and on the bough
was a golden cage, and in the cage was a golden bird. It never
sang, although it opened its mouth mutely as if it wanted to,
and its golden feathers drooped disconsolately. The opening
lines of The Golden Bough, a Fairy Tale Ballet.

This ballet is about what happens when creative passion, locked
up in the soul, is released into the world. The heroine, a Little
Girl, allows herself to be moved by compassion to release a
Golden Bird from its cage. In exchange for her freedom, the
Bird cheers, champions, cajoles, and advises the Little Girl
while teaching her to overcome her fears. The 1-1/2 hour ballet,
choreographed by Wilor Bluege is sponsored by St. Anthony Dance
Theatre and features a cast of 80 dancers, magnificent sets,
and over 500 costume pieces. Since 1997, the ballet has been
performed at The O’Shaughnessy, College of St. Catherine
in Saint Paul.
